"I will never forget the sight of Noel Callow flogging poor Benicio across the line to win the 2005 Victoria Derby. It was shocking; even the commentator mentioned it. This wasn't a quick flick on the shoulder; Callow brought it down with all his might in a particularly ugly ride. But I do not recall Callow receiving any reprimands, only trophies. Really, he should have been fined and suspended, and his win forfeited. As for the reprimands for jockeys who whip horses who are clearly beaten, or who have clearly won -- they should of course be more strictly and publicly enforced."
